Kirchdorf: Holidays in a Nature Paradise

Traditional Tirolean farmhouses, verdant pastures and well-maintained hiking trails dominate the greater Kirchdorf area. Set at 640 meters above sea level, Kirchdorf makes a great year-round base for exploring the rugged mountains of the Wilder Kaiser Massif. One of the area’s most scenic walks starts in the hamlet of Gasteig and leads through the pristine Kaiserbachtal Valley and via Griesener Alm to Stripsenjochhaus Refuge (1,577m) and on to the peak of Feldberg (1,813m). Highlights on this hike include the mysterious “Devil’s Lane” and one of Tirol’s most distinctive pine oil distilleries. Kirchdorf (2,000 inhabitants) managed to remain a small and peaceful town that still has a traditional Tirolean feel to it. In the summer, hikers and cyclists enjoy the environment, while cross-country skiers and Alpine skiers take over in the winter. Thanks to its small ski area with long and gentle slopes, Kirchdorf is ideal for beginners. Experienced skiers and riders will find plenty of challenges in the nearby Schneewinkel ski area, which comprises the resorts of St. Johann in Tirol, Waidring, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Fieberbrunn. Cross-country ski buffs will find an incredible 250 kilometers of groomed trails in the Holiday Region. Those with a romantic spirit will love a horse-drawn carriage ride through the magic winter wonderland followed by a relaxed break and a cup of steaming mulled wine at a mountain hut. Refreshment and relaxation are offered at the Kaiserquell Wellness Oasis: in the summer you can splash in the outdoor pools or simply soak up the sun, and in the winter the saunas and steam baths offer relaxation for body, mind and soul.
